Zuzana Helsinki consultant and author of “A shortcut to marketing the library” dares librarians to be more aggressive in their marketing. She encourages targeted and repeated communication and interaction with the audience “Do it, even if you are not sure if it’s good”. The most important thing is to be out there.
Anthony Brewerton, head of academic services at Warwick University Library definitely raised awareness of the importance of creating a community by showing how he and his team build up an amazing physical and virtual research community at Warwick University.
David Nicholas, director of CIBER research group, sends the librarians out to where the researchers are. He challenges librarians to look at the information seeking behaviour of their audience and think of smartphones as access points.
Aubery Escande, communication and editorial manager at The European Library, gave an introduction on the European Library website, which was launched yesterday evening at the conference dinner.

The breakout sessions pointed out that when it comes to effectively communicating, librarians and their institutions should think about:
- go out and explore the other camp
- develop better networks
- personalize communication
- collaboration between publishers and libraries
- giving researchers communication skills
The Europeana Libraries workshop has truly been a moment for inspiration for future communication activities.
