SUMMARY:DCDC16
DESCRIPTION:The National Archives and Research Libraries UK ( http://www.rluk.ac.uk/ ) are delighted to announce that registration is now open for this year’s Discovering Collections, Discovering Communities Conference (DCDC16) ( http://dcdcconference.com/ ), 10-12 October at The Lowry, Manchester UK.\nThis year’s conference brings together over 70 speakers from across the UK, Europe and further afield exploring the varied and innovative ways in which archives, museums, libraries, and academia can help realise the potential of collections and translate this into social, cultural, and economic impact.\nIn the last decade, notions of impact have risen to the forefront of discourse and debate within the heritage, research, and academic sectors. As budgets across the heritage sector have retracted, organisations of every size and shape have had to review their working practices, and look at qualifying and quantifying the impact of their collections and activities, and their relation to wider social, cultural and economic agendas.\nKeynote speakers include:\n\nBaroness Neville-Rolfe ( https://www.gov.uk/government/people/baroness-neville-rolfe-dbe ) DBE CMG (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (jointly with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport) and Minister for Intellectual Property\nNicola Wright ( http://www.lse.ac.uk/library/about/Library%20Leadership%20Team/Library%20Leadership%20Team.aspx ) (Director of LSE Library Services)\nProfessor Carenza Lewis ( http://staff.lincoln.ac.uk/clewis ) (Professor for the Public Understanding of Research, University of Lincoln).\n\nDCDC16 welcomes delegates from across the heritage, cultural and academic sectors. We know that having the opportunity to network is important to delegates, so we will be holding two evening events.\nThe pre-conference reception will be held at The Lowry on Monday 10 October, and is a chance for you to network with both new faces and old before the main conference takes place.

Then on the evening of 11 October we will hold the main Conference dinner at the stunning Imperial War Museum North, located just across the river from The Lowry.\nSo please join us for what will be a fascinating two and a half-days of discussion, debate and networking.\n
