Members of the LIBER Executive Board gathered in Helsinki for their first Executive Board meeting of 2015.
At the meeting, which took place on 19 and 20 February, the Board discussed LIBER advocacy for copyright reform, extending and refining the LIBER Strategy beyond 2015, and the LIBER work programme for 2015.
In addition to the formal presentation and discussion of papers, part of the meeting followed a workshop-style format.
Board Members and guests from Working Groups shared expertise on topics such as copyright and those present were invited to exchange views on the topic. This more interactive way of working is a new feature of Executive Board meetings, brought in by President Kristiina Hormia-Poutanen following her appointment in July 2014.
Advocacy for Copyright Reform
Mr Jonas Holm, Chair of the LIBER Copyright Working Group, attended the Executive Board meeting to present at a special Discussion Slot on European copyright. Mr Holm provided the Board with an overview of the activities of the Working Group and an outline of the key components of the European copyright framework.
LIBER Strategy Post-2015
A special breakout session was held during the Discussion Slot at the Board meeting to allow members of the Board to brainstorm strategic directions to be incorporated into the LIBER Strategy going forward. These high-level directions are being developed with the aim of enabling LIBER Participants more easily to assess the progress of LIBER and to help Steering Committees identify areas for collaboration. LIBER participants will have the opportunity to feedback on the development of the Strategy at the LIBER Annual Conference in June and via an online platform.
