Dr Ann Matheson is an adviser to LIBER’s Executive Board on LIBER’s statutory provisions and procedures. She is also investigating LIBER’s current coverage of research libraries in parts of Europe, particularly in a number of countries in Central and Eastern Europe, with a view to increasing their participation in LIBER. Previously Ann served for many years as LIBER’s Secretary-General.
With a professional background in research libraries, she has worked extensively on inter-library co-operation with research libraries in Scotland, the UK and at a European and international level. She is also involved with initiatives for the literature of Scotland and is a member of the panel responsible for Scotland’s national literary awards. Her first language is Gaelic, and she chairs the Library Committee of the only library in the world (on the island of Skye) working through the medium of Gaelic.
LIBER is the main professional association of European research libraries and brings them together in an active network. It stands for ‘one Europe’ and aims to include research libraries from all parts of Europe. LIBER enables research libraries in individual European countries to collaborate with those in other countries, assisting them to keep up-to-date with leading professional developments and by this means enabling them to contribute positively to their own libraries and societies.
