Hannelore is a Senior Science Policy Advisor with KU Leuven where she heads the Data Management Team since 2011. She is responsible for policy development and researcher support in the fields of Scholarly Communication and Research Assessment. She is also part of LIBER’s Research Data Management Working Group.
Hannelore drafted KU Leuven’s Open Access policy and RDM guidelines and is currently working on an extensive update to both. Through regular information sessions and face-to-face consultations with researchers in the framework of funders’ requirements regarding Open Access and Open Data, the drafting and maintenance of funders’ templates on KU Leuven’s DMPOnline platform, and the reviewing of DMPs she has learned what works and does not work when researchers need to be engaged. Together with a technical team she is responsible for the deployment and daily management of KU Leuven’s new institutional repository. She also initiated the ‘virtual office of Scholarly Communication’ at KU Leuven in close cooperation with KU Leuven Libraries. In addition, she is co-chair of the Flemish Interuniversitary Council’s Working Group on Research Data Management & Open Science, member of LERU’s Information and Open Access Policy Group, and a former ORCID Ambassador.
With a background in Archaeology which took Hannelore as a postdoctoral researcher to the UK and as a lecturer to Turkey, she combines a keen sense of pragmatic shorter-term solutions with a more idealistic long-term vision on how research should ideally proceed.
