LIBER’s ongoing work during the pandemic
We understand that libraries are confronted with new issues due to COVID-19, while still having to handle budget and other aspects of running a library during difficult times. We appreciate your continued membership. Given the extraordinary and fluctuating circumstances, we strive to provide our members with as many supplementary online services, and as much support, as possible. As we move towards a post-pandemic reconstruction of the library and scholarly information landscape, we believe that collaboration across the European library network will be more effective than ever in realising economies and efficiencies, in sharing our collective expertise, and in allowing libraries from across the entire LIBER community to play their part in helping with the necessary work of social and educational reconstruction.
Following the Ensuring LIBER’s Viability & Building on Success proposal we put forward, we acted swiftly to reorganize our annual event, LIBER 2020, and successfully conducted it online, with a total of 1530 individual registrations. We are also looking at new services we can offer to our members that will facilitate you in your activities. Additionally, we are drafting a new survey to better understand our members’ situation and challenges during these difficult times, and how we, as LIBER, can best support you. Until then, we remain dedicated to answering your questions and to being (virtually) here for you.

‘Open Research Europe’ (ORE) Survey – Later this year, the European Commission will launch ‘Open Research Europe’ (ORE), an open access Publishing Platform for Horizon 2020 beneficiaries. ORE will offer rapid publication of a wide range of article types without editorial bias. All articles will benefit from transparent peer review and will be published under an open license. ORE is a significant step towards Open Science in Europe. LIBER, as an expert partner in the project, will ensure that the voice of research librarians is heard in the project, and for that purpose, will send a survey its members next month in September. The aim of this survey is to provide the ORE project team with insights related to awareness, perception and experience on open practices and tools, from the perspective of research librarians
