Are you an experienced library director interested in inspiring and empowering future library leaders?
LIBER Leadership Programmes Working Group is looking for mentors to guide promising librarians and help them take the next step in their careers to senior leadership within their libraries.
The LIBER Emerging Leaders Programme, a sector-leading and high-level seminar aimed at developing the next generation of senior European library leaders, is over 10 years old, has trained 6 cohorts and graduated 130+ alumni. The next cohort will start in 2025, with the first seminar taking place at the venue of the LIBER Annual Conference, at the Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire Lausanne in Switzerland.
As part of the programme curriculum, candidates take part in a year-long mentorship with an established European academic and research library director. The mentorship combines both online and offline activities, where you get to –
- Engage in regular discussions throughout the year, support and advise the mentee in navigating challenges and objectives to step up for the next stage in their career.
- Welcome the mentee for a one-week immersive placement in your library, where they will shadow your work and observe leadership strategies in action.

The mentors have at least 4 years of experience in a senior library leadership role (library director or equivalent) and work at a LIBER member institution. The Emerging Leaders Programme is an international seminar, and all participants are required to have a proficient level of English in both oral and written communication.
