LIBER Quarterly Welcomes a New Managing Editor

Posted: 13-06-2025 Topics: LIBER Quarterly

LIBER is pleased to welcome Tiernan O’Sullivan as the new Managing Editor of LIBER Quarterly.

Tiernan brings experience in scholarly communication and open access publishing, and joins the editorial team at a moment when several interesting initiatives are underway, drawing on work in subgroups focused on the peer review process, research data management, and generative AI.

Currently based in the Netherlands, Tiernan works at Tilburg University as a Digital Skills Trainer in the Research Data Office. In this role, he supports open science and research data management through a programme of workshops and webinars, including sessions on data anonymization, reproducible research, and good research software practices. His current focus is on developing training and support for research software and he has contributed to a range of national initiatives, including projects with the Netherlands eScience Center and the National Open Science Festival.

Previously, Tiernan served as Assistant Knowledge Services Manager at A&L Goodbody, an Irish law firm, where he led on library systems. He also held roles as a lecturer and research librarian at Dublin Business School, where he managed the library’s institutional repository and served as part of the editorial team for a diamond open access journal published. His experience spans library system management, research data and software management, research infrastructure, and information and digital literacy.

Tiernan’s connection to LIBER began as an early-career librarian — volunteering at the 2019 Annual Conference in Dublin and later attending events that introduced him to members from LIBER’s network. These experiences played a formative role in shaping his career across borders. Having long admired LIBER’s work from the outside, he is now excited to contribute more directly on the development of LIBER Quarterly.

It’s an honour to join the LIBER Quarterly team. The journal plays an important role as both a record of the work happening across LIBER’s network and a contribution to the broader field of library and information science. I see it as a kind of nexus — a place where emerging practices, infrastructure, and ideas from across Europe can be shared, questioned, and developed. I’m looking forward to supporting that work and helping to grow the journal’s relevance and reach.

Tiernan will be attending the LIBER Annual Conference 2025 in Lausanne as part of the Networking Power session. Please join us in welcoming him to the editorial team.
