Susanne Blumesberger

Head of the Coordination Centre for Science Communication and Citizen Science, Vienna University Library

Susanne Blumesberger has worked at the Vienna University Library since 2007, helped set up the PHAIDRA repository and headed the PHAIDRA Services repository management department from 2016 to May 2025.

In 2016, she also founded the Austria-wide network for repository managers. Since June 2025, she has headed the Coordination Centre for Science Communication and Citizen Science.

She studied Communication Sciences and German Studies at the University of Vienna, graduated with a doctorate and then worked at the University of Vienna and at the Institute of Science and Art as a coordinator and editor of several third-party funded projects.

At the Vienna University Library, she deals with topics such as open data and open science and, above all, accessibility. She is also 2nd Vice President of the Austrian Association of Librarians.

At the Department of German Studies, she regularly teaches on the subject of children’s and young adult literature, co-edits a journal and publishes on library and literary topics.

For her, libraries are places of education and knowledge, but also of relaxation and happiness.
