Valentina Vavassori

Digital Curator for Automatic Text Recognition, Heritage Made Digital, The British Library

Dr Valentina Vavassori is the Digital Curator for Automatic Text Recognition (OCR and HTR) at the British Library.

She is particularly interested in developing workflows for text, speech and music recognition, using ATR for enhancing provenance research, and collaborating with communities to create models for less represented languages.

She previously worked at the National Archives, UK as Digital Scholarship Researcher.

She originally trained as an Art Historian in Italy, obtaining an MA and MPhil (Scuola di Specializzazione) in Art History. She earned her PhD in Digital Humanities at King’s College London. Her research explored the impact of contextual technologies such as chatbots and Augmented Reality on visitors, and how visitors’ narratives can be visualised and studied using Spatial Humanities methods.
