Call to Action for Libraries: Improve the Discoverability of Open Textbooks. A Step-by-Step Guide
The LIBER Educational Resources Working Group is pleased to present their newest publication: “Call to Action for Libraries: Improve the Discoverability of Open Textbooks. A Step-by-Step Guide”.
This Call-to-Action document aims to provide practical steps that help to improve the discoverability of open textbooks. If more open textbooks are included in library discovery systems, they can more easily be reused. Achieving this aim may require several different steps – depending on your starting point. The document is a result of focus work done by the Working Group in 2023-2024.
Anyone who would like to improve the discoverability of open textbooks in their own system can pick the steps that are most suitable for their situation – according to their own knowledge and experience.
The steps include:
Step Zero: “Why open textbooks?” – Consider your starting point and national or other circumstances
Step One: Include existing open textbooks into your collection
Step Two: Communicate within your institution
Step Three: Support teachers
Step Four: Drive institutional change through monitoring and evaluation
Appendices include examples for established collections of open (text-)books, metadata and licence information as well as further reading.
