About

This new course is aimed at mid-management leaders at LIBER academic libraries. It is designed for 15 managers who are either starting out or are already in leadership positions in their institutions and who are looking ahead at developing their leadership skills in what sometimes is described as “the toughest job in the library”.

 

Benefits of the Mid-management Leaders Course:

Completing the course will be a benefit not only to you, as an individual, but also to your library. Research libraries are subject to constant change and transformation, and this programme helps library staff to be well-equipped to deal with whatever new challenges are on their way in the role of middle managers. In addition, participants will gain a valuable network of colleagues beyond the course.

Content

The event consists of six 2-hour modules, and will be led and moderated by members of the LIBER Leadership Programmes Working Group:

  • Basics of Middle Management
  • Leading teams
  • Communication + conflict management
  • Change management, resilience, and stress management
  • Strategic planning session
  • Wrap-up session on suggested themes

Pre- and post sessions: The participants will be required to complete a few independent reading and writing assignments.

All participants who take part of six modules and fill out required tasks, will receive a certificate in the end.

How To Apply

All applicants are required to submit the following materials:

  • Application form;
  • A motivational essay (not exceeding 2 pages) must answer the following questions: Why are you applying for the programme, what are you hoping to gain, and how will you implement the knowledge you gained daily?
  • Recommendation from the library director.

Cost

The sign-up fee for the training programme is 180 euros and is due to be paid to LIBER prior to the start of the programme. The fee covers all six sessions. LIBER does not charge VAT.
