Dr Giannis Tsakonas

LIBER Vice-President & CPC Chair, Director, Library & Information Center, University of Patras

Giannis holds a BA in Librarianship from the Department of Archives and Library Sciences, Ionian University, Greece and a PhD in Information Science from the same Department.

Currently he works as Director in the Library & Information Center, University of Patras, Greece. He also serves on LIBER’s Executive Board as head of the Innovative Scholarly Communication Steering Committee, and on the Board of Directors of Hellenic Academic Libraries Link. In 2016, he was appointed Vice President of the Hellenic General Council of Libraries, a body of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs monitoring the operation of Greek public libraries.

In the past he has worked in many national and international projects concerning the development of digital libraries, and has served on the Program Committee of many conferences.

LIBER matters because I believe that communication and coordination are key elements for sustainable library services. Through LIBER the best and most interesting practices from European Libraries are communicated, and there are plenty of coordinated actions that strengthen our Libraries’ position in the European setting.
