Meet LIBER’s New Executive Board Members & Steering Committee Chairs

Following the 2025 Executive Board elections, four new members have been selected to the LIBER Board.

The election for the LIBER Executive Board took place during the Meeting of Participants at the LIBER Annual Conference 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland. With three seats elected and one appointed (LIBER Treasurer), we’re pleased to introduce you to the four newest members of our governing Executive Board. 

• Jonathan White, LIBER Treasurer, Director of Library and Cultural Services and University Librarian, Library and Cultural Services at the University of Essex, United Kingdom
• Ann-Sofie Axelsson, Head of the Department of Communication and Learning in Science and Library Director at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden 
• Alicia Fátima Gómez, Library Director, IE University, Madrid, Spain 
• David Tréfás, Head of Modern Collections, Basel University Library, Switzerland 

We warmly welcome our new Executive Board members and thank all candidates who took part in the nomination and election process. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the Board members who concluded their terms in 2025: Dr Hilde van Wijngaarden, Dr Andreas Brandtner, Dr Heli Kautonen, and Dr Birgit Schmidt.  

New Steering Committee Chairs 

The Steering Committee (SC) for Upskilling the Library Workforce will be Chaired by Dóra Kalydy and the SC Advancing Open Science by Thomas Kaarsted. The Chair for State-of-the-art Services will later be appointed from the current LIBER Executive Board 

2026 Call for Nominations to LIBER’s Executive Board

In 2026, several positions in the LIBER Executive Board will become vacant. A Call for Nominations will be published in winter 2025-2026 on our website and communication channels, inviting senior library professionals to join LIBER’s governing body. Stay tuned for more updates!
