Dr Frans Lettenström

Coordinator Open Science, Örebro University Library

Frans is an advocate for Open Science in Sweden, presently at Örebro University. From 2000-2015 he was Director Strategic Partners Program at Elsevier and Sales Director for different regions at Academic Press and Springer. He negotiated experimental OA offset licenses between Springer and universities in Spain and Russia.

From 1995-1999 he was Executive Officer at the Royal Library’s Office for Coordination and Development, Sweden. It was during this time that he created the BIBSAM national research library consortium, one of the first in Europe, and started the Kulturarw3 national archive of Swedish web pages (the first national web archive).

His career began as a researcher in particle physics at CERN, one of the sources of the Open Access movement, from 1983-1990.

I strongly support LIBER’s strategy to help Europe’s research libraries to develop their Open Science knowledge and practice, while at the same time lobbying for it at European and international levels.
