Lee Houghton

Librarian (Digital Library Support), University of Nottingham

Lee is a member of LIBER’s FIM4L Working Group and a librarian in the Digital Library Support Team at the University of Nottingham, specialising in resource discovery and access.

He manages and develops the library’s discovery system (Primo). A key part of his role is also making sure electronic resources are easily accessible to all registered users by routing them through the library’s authentication systems (Shibboleth and EZproxy).

Previous to his current role, Lee has worked in Acquisitions, as an Information Officer in a commercial law firm and also as front line staff in the University of Nottingham’s Science and Engineering and Education libraries.

I’m excited to have the chance to be part of a group that is committed to both improving the user experience of federated authentication for libraries while also protecting the privacy of users which is such a sensitive and important issue. Library users now expect to be able to access resources just as easily from any location as from on campus, but they also expect their privacy to be preserved so that their personal information is not exposed inappropriately.
