Anja is the Director of DANS, Centre of Expertise and National Repository and for research data. DANS is an Insitute of the Royal Academy of Sciences and the National Research Council in The Netherlands.

Previously, Anja has served as a University Librarian at the Radboud University, Maastricht University and most recently at Utrecht University. Anja also worked with Academic Libraries in United States, New England as an Executive Consultant at NELINET (now Lyrasis).

Anja represents DANS in the National Open Science Network, CoARA and in several (inter)national research data infrastructures, such as ODISSEI, CLARIAH and CESSDA. Anja is also active in national and international library networks, including the Board of Trustees of OCLC and the LIBER Executive Board. In addition, she is also a member of the Board of Bibliotheekservice Passend Lezen (the Dutch Library for the Blind) and Board member of the Utrecht Archive on behalf of the National Government. Anja holds an MA from Utrecht University in Dutch Literature.
