Paul Johnson

Director of Library and Learning Services, University of Surrey

Paul Johnson is Director of Library and Learning Services at the University of Surrey Library in the UK. Before taking up this role, he was Associate Director (Collections, Planning and Research) at the University of Reading, where he led on a £44 million-pound refurbishment of the university library and developed support for Open Research within the library. While at Reading he was actively involved with RLUK (Research Libraries UK), and co-founded and acted as the first co-convenor for the RLUK Collections Strategy Network.

Prior to his role at Reading he worked as Head of Academic Liaison at Royal Holloway, University of London. He obtained a postgraduate qualification in library and information studies at University College London and has an undergraduate degree in Classics and Modern Languages from Wadham College, University of Oxford.

Paul completed the LIBER Emerging Leaders programme in 2018 and subsequently joined the LIBER Open Access Working Group. He became the LIBER representative for the SCOSS Advisory Board in 2019.
