Sofia Zapounidou is a librarian working for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Library & Information Centre, and a member of LIBER’s Linked Open Data Working Group.
Her main duties at the library involved the website and web-scale discovery services. Sofia also advocates for open access and open science strategies by researching, publishing papers and organizing events, such as the OA Week annual event & Open Data Day in collaboration with Open Knowledge Greece.
Sofia holds a MSc focused in Information Systems from University of Macedonia, Greece and is in her final year of her Phd thesis. Her PhD thesis is on library linked data and focuses on the interoperability between well-known library data conceptual models (FRBR, IFLA-LRM, BIBFRAME, EDM, FRBRoo).
She is also a member of the organizing team for the Erasmus Library Staff Training Week at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, bringing together librarians, ideas, solutions.
Library linked data is not about just converting our legacy data. Library linked data is about envisioning what information services libraries and other memory institutions may offer to the public in the future exploiting their rich data.
LIBER fosters collaboration and this WG will hopefully lead to the provision of solutions to common problems, and to the vision of future information services. I would be honored to be part of this effort.
