LIBER Publishes a Statement on Rights & Values for Research Libraries
LIBER has published a statement, “LIBER Europe is engaging with rights and values for libraries in an evolving society and academic world“.
Developed by LIBER Rights & Values Taskforce, the statement demonstrates how European research libraries are serving the common good, strengthening democracy, and benefiting librarians, researchers and citizens. It has identified three priorities where libraries should act as key agents of trust and progress in the European research landscape, followed by four action points for upholding academic values.
On Zenodo, you can find the LIBER statement along with a collection of deliverables from the Taskforce: a survey analysis and findings, a list of references with major texts useful for everyone.

The Taskforce will present the statement and showcase their work at the LIBER Annual Conference 2026 in Trondheim, with a poster presentation and at the LIBER Spotlight Session.
About LIBER Rights & Values Taskforce
Embedded in the LIBER Strategy 2023-2027, the Rights & Values Taskforce concentrates its actions and deliverables strictly on the core mission of academic and research libraries in relation to research and society, addressing the topics of integrity and transparency in its 2025-2026 planning. Composed of members from LIBER libraries, the focus of the Taskforce lies on reinforcing research libraries as essential actors in safeguarding and advancing European academic values through their work with researchers, scientific communities, and data infrastructures, and in empowering libraries themselves to act in accordance with these values. The Taskforce has been engaged across the current LIBER Strategy cycle and is set to conclude in July 2026.
