Please note that as of 2020, this group has ended.

Introduction

The Innovative Metrics Working Group is pursuing a range of topics.

Areas of focus include:

  • Innovation, creation and documentation of new metric standards;
  • Competence building in libraries and among researchers;
  • Alternative metrics for management reporting;
  • Guidelines for how to explain to management why measures fluctuate and Ethics of alternative measures.

In 2018, the group delivered a set of best practices and recommendations in its report Scholarly Metrics Recommendations For Research Libraries: Deciphering the Trees in the Forest.

The Metrics Working Group operates as part of LIBER’s Strategic Direction on Innovative Scholarly Communications, which in turn is one of the key pillars of our 2018-2022 Strategy.
