LIBER Leadership Programmes Working Group

Introduction

The Leadership Programmes Working Group undertakes a range of activities designed to help libraries train and recruit strong leaders.

The group is most renowned for its two leadership courses.

  1. Journées for Library Directors: Topics include reshaping library services, reshaping the role of the library in the institution, reshaping the organisation and reshaping leadership and the leader. This is a Programme exclusively for Library Directors. Read more.
  2. Emerging Leaders: Aimed at people who are already in positions of senior management but who wish to do more to enhance their leadership qualities in preparation for the step up to the next big challenge – that of taking responsibility for leading an organisation through changing times. Read more.

The group’s activities will expand in early 2025 with the addition of the first cohort of the Middle Management Training programme. In addition, the Working Group also runs a series of initiatives, including a Job Description database. An internship marketplace is currently being planned.

As Working Groups are the primary units to conduct work on the LIBER strategy, ours will operate under the Steering Committee for the direction, Upskilling the Library Workforce, as defined in LIBER’s 2023-2027 Strategy.
