• Monday, 15 – Tuesday, 16 March: Pre-Seminar tour in Venice

  Pre-Seminar tour in Venice, Monday, 15 – Tuesday, 16 March, organised by Ca’ Foscari University Library, Venice.

  Ca’ Foscari University Library is in the process of an extensive building program. The overall idea is to consolidate the 32 libraries distributed all over Venice into five major sites. The two first libraries will be opened early 2004. We visited.

  The “Biblioteca Didattica”. This Library is scheduled for opening in Spring 2004. Formerly a wood and carpenter’s warehouse
  The Università Ca’Foscari di Venezia Library “S. Giobbe” (School of Economic). Housed on the ground and in the buildings of the former slaughterhouse of Venice , it is a daring but still unfinished project. The Library will be completed in fall 2004; the whole area is located on the western edge of the city.

  Other visits included The Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in S. Maria Formosa, which today is a library and a museum. Other sites: Fondazione Giorgio Cini on S. Giorgio Island, Biblioteca della Congregazione Armena Mechitarista on Isola di S. Lazzaro degli Armeni, the old library of S. Marco School (in SS Giovanni e Paolo).
